The Caribbean coastal region of Nicaragua is one of the regions lagging behind in terms of infrastructure development, and the North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region (RACCN) in particular has been positioned by the Nicaraguan government as a priority area for development.
The trunk road between Rio Blanco and Siuna (National Road 21B) is an important transport route connecting the capital, Managua, with the RACCN. It serves as a route for transporting agricultural, livestock, and forestry products from the region, and also plays an important role in supporting the daily lives of residents along the road. However, some of the bridges on this section posed risks to traffic and had become bottlenecks for transport and logistics in the region.
This project aims to improve transport and logistics on this section by constructing the Japan-Nicaragua Friendship Bridge in Mulukuku, and to contribute to revitalizing the regional economy by improving market access.
