[Jamuna Railway Bridge Construction Project]

This bridge is a railway-only bridge located in Tangail District and Sirajganj District, which are situated on either side of the Jamuna River basin in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The bridge has a total length of 13.35 km, including approach sections, and features a 4.8 km steel truss bridge and 50 steel pipe sheet pile foundations. The project began in 2017, and despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the project progressed without delays, leading to its opening in March 2025.

With the completion of the bridge, train operating speeds across the river increased dramatically from 20 km/h to 120 km/h. In addition to eliminating the geographic divide caused by the vast river and enabling smoother regional mobility, the bridge is expected to greatly expand freight transport capacity and make a significant contribution to Bangladesh’s economic growth.
