In Indonesia, rapid economic growth in recent years has led to a sharp increase in container cargo volumes handled at existing ports, resulting in capacity constraints. In response, the development of one of Indonesia’s largest new ports is underway in the Patimban area as part of a national strategic project. This project adopts advanced Japanese technologies under the STEP scheme, and a portion of the port was completed and commenced operations in 2021. The surrounding area is home to industrial estates primarily focused on manufacturing industries such as automobiles and electrical appliances, where many Japanese companies are concentrated. Upon completion of the new port, a reduction in logistics costs for these companies is expected.
During the visit, Executive Senior Vice President Miyazaki received an explanation that Patimban Port, which is being developed through Japanese ODA loans, will be larger than the Port of Yokohama in Japan. Reflecting on this, she remarked, “This area will become a port city in the future and be operated as an international trading port.”
OC Global contributes to the economic development of the respective country through the development of ports, while promoting the development of safe, secure, and efficient infrastructure.
