OC Global is currently implementing the Smart City Project to Improve the Attractiveness of Pedestrian Space around Transportation Nodal Facilities Using 5km/h Smart Mobility (Pedestrian Coexistence Type). This project was selected under the FY2023 Subsidy for Urban Development Project Formation Support Program (Overseas Smart City Project Formation Support Program) by MLIT. As part of this initiative, the recent demonstration was carried out in collaboration with Gekidan Iino G.K., a company engaged in the development and operation of pedestrian-coexistence mobility vehicles that run at 5km/h.
The project aims to promote improved connectivity and walkability between stations and surrounding commercial facilities, as well as the creation of cozy walking spaces at the stations on the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT Jakarta), which commenced operation in 2019 through a Japanese Yen loan, and contributes to increasing the percentage of public transportation users and improving chronic traffic congestion. Furthermore, by integrating Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) with smart city technologies, the initiative contributes to enhancing the overall value and functionality of the city.
In July and November 2022, OC Global signed a memorandum of understanding for a strategic alliance for the business creation of TOD in the Jakarta Special Region. PT MRT Jakarta was designated as the master developer of TOD along the MRT stations under the Jakarta Governor’s Decree. In October 2023, OC Global established the TOD Promotion Office, and this project represents a tangible outcome that contributes to the promotion and expansion of TOD, while also being positioned as one of the company’s priority projects. BITA, a company with which OC Global has formed a Global Strategic Partnership, also participated in spatial planning and the demonstration project. In addition, discussions were held with Japanese developers and local universities, resulting in a socially valuable demonstration trial through close collaboration among industry, government, and academia.
Gekidan Iino G.K., our project partner, is now transitioning from demonstration trials to social implementation of its services, including deployments in Tokyo at TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY—a large-scale integrated urban development directly connected to Takanawa Gateway Station—and within Haneda Airport. Leveraging the synergies with OC Global’s extensive experience in transportation and urban development projects around the world, we aim to utilize the data obtained through this demonstration to further promote public transportation-oriented urban development and the creation of livable urban spaces. At the same time, we will continue to support the overseas expansion of startups and smart city technologies.
