Tokyo, JAPAN – On November 29, 2023, a total of 8 individuals, including Mr. Dilli Ram Luintel, the Project Director of the Nepal National Emergency School Reconstruction Project, visited the headquarters of Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd. (OC Global). They held discussions with OC Global President and CEO, Mr. Eiji Yonezawa, among others.

This project aimed to facilitate the recovery from the April 2015 earthquake with a magnitude of Mw7.8, which occurred approximately 77 kilometers northwest of Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu (Gorkha district). The project commenced in January 2017, and was completed in May 2023. It was initiated due to the extensive destruction caused by the earthquake, which resulted in over 31,000 classrooms being fully or severely damaged, leading to the loss of learning spaces for nearly one million students.

To address this situation, focusing on the six districts severely affected by the earthquake, the Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) loan project implemented the concept of “Build Back Better”, and carried out the reconstruction and seismic strengthening of a total of 274 primary and secondary school facilities. OC Global was responsible for project management tasks including detailed design, bid support, and construction supervision.

During the meeting, Mr. Dilli Ram Luintel expressed his gratitude for OC Global’s involvement in earthquake recovery efforts over the past eight and a half years since the 2015 earthquake. He specifically acknowledged our support in reconstructing the 274 schools as part of this project. OC Global will continue to provide necessary technical assistance, including earthquake recovery support, and contribute to Nepal’s development.
