Basra, IRAQ – On November 13, 2023, Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd., as a member of a consortium, carried out consulting services, such as detailed design, bid support, and construction supervision for the ‘Iraq National Port Sector Reconstruction Project (2)’. The project involved the construction of new service berths at Umm Qasr Port (Commercial Port) and the expansion of berths at Khor Al Zubair Port (Industrial Port), located in the Basra region in southeastern Iraq, under ‘Package 4A’.

The completion ceremony was held, and it was attended by Mr. Adel Ali Desher, Deputy CEO of the General Company for Ports of Iraq (GCPI), and many other dignitaries from the Iraqi side. From the Japanese side, Mr. Futoshi Matsumoto, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Iraq, and Mr. Gen Yoneda, Chief Representative of JICA Iraq Office, were among the attendees.

This project has led to the development of berths for the import and export of petroleum products at Khor Al Zubair Port and service berths for workboats and service boats at Umm Qasr Port. It is expected that these developments will contribute to the expansion of Iraq’s abundant oil and gas exports, as well as increase the cargo handling volumes and international trade at both ports. Furthermore, it is anticipated that this will contribute to the revitalization of the country’s economy.
