Mr. Kato participated in the “Low Carbon in Policy Strategy” session and delivered a presentation on OC Global’s “Smart Island Pilot Project” in Indonesia, discussing the challenges faced by remote islands, potential solutions, economic impacts of the project, and issuing a call for investment partners. Makassar City Mayor Moh. Ramdhan Pomanto expressed significant expectations in his address, emphasizing the project’s benefits for Indonesia as an archipelagic nation and expressing a strong desire for Makassar City to cooperate.

The project aims to introduce cold chain* facilities powered by renewable energy to the remote islands of South Sulawesi. This initiative is planned to not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also promote the electrification and development of the fisheries industry on the islands. Following the one-year pilot project, the goal is to expand the initiative nationwide across Indonesia.
