OC Global Executive Officer Hiroshi Kato Delivers Presentation at Japan-ASEAN Smart City High-Level Conference
On October 26, 2023, Oriental Consultants Global (OC Global) participated in the 5th Japan-ASEAN Smart City Network (ASCN) High-Level Conference, which was held in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture. OC Global’s Executive Officer Mr. Hirotsugu Kato, delivered a presentation.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan and the Ministry of Home Affairs of Indonesia jointly chaired the conference, which was attended by representatives from various countries and cities in the ASCN, representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat, as well as local governments and companies from Japan. Mr. Kato mentioned OC Global’s Smart Island Project and announced that we have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the city of Makassar in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, which is one of the project implementation sites. He also mentioned that we will soon conclude a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to determine specific areas of cooperation and initiate pilot projects.
Mr. Gensly, Senior Analyst at the Ministry of Home Affairs of Indonesia, also joined Mr. Kato in presenting and expressed his expectations for the implementation of the pilot project, which aims to promote electrification and the development of the fisheries industry by introducing cold chain* facilities powered by renewable energy on remote islands in South Sulawesi. This project is the first to be implemented following the overseas smart city support initiative “Smart JAMP” by MLIT and it is also OC Global’s first ESG investment** project. The recognition of Makassar City, under the jurisdiction of the Indonesian central government’s Ministry of Home Affairs, at this conference has raised expectations for the early implementation of the project.

** The term for considering ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) factors, which are non-financial elements in addition to financial elements, in investment is “ESG investing.
OC Global contributes to addressing the food issues in the country by supporting the safe and fr esh distribution of food through the introduction of cold chain facilities powered by renewable energy, and also contributes to the preservation of valuable aquatic resources.
