Demonstration project for large EV bus system launches in Malaysia
10-minute super quick charge provides 30 km of driving
Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd., as a member of the Japanese Consortium which consists of Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions Corporation, PUES Corporation, HASETEC Corporation, and Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd., has started demonstrative operation of a large Electric Vehicle (EV) bus system which can drive 30 km on a ten-minute charge in Putrajaya, the administrative capital of Malaysia. The large-sized EV buses are equipped with storage batteries that can be charged in a very short time and have a long lifespan. By demonstrating the system on EV buses, the project aims to create a smart urban transportation system by improving its efficiency, and to deploy urban transportation package projects across a wide area.
This is the “International Demonstration Project for Introducing EV buses with Fast-Charging systems in Putrajaya, Malaysia” called PUTRA NEDO EV BUS PROJECT, under the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization, Japan (NEDO) and Perbadanan Putrajaya, Malaysia. Through the demonstration, the large-sized EV buses are operated by Putrajaya Public Transport Travel & Tours (PAPTT), and the performance of the super quick charging system and the lifespan of the storage batteries in a tropical climate will be verified.
Calling upon our experience with numerous infrastructure projects in 150 overseas countries, Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd. is working toward environmental and economic evaluation, including CO2 emission reduction by the proposed EV bus system.
The EV bus system is environmental friendly transportation, as it emits no air pollutions or CO2, and can operate at low noise and vibration levels. Malaysia, which aims at becoming one of the developed countries by 2020, has accomplished remarkable economic growth in the short term in Southeast Asia and has laid emphasis on the development of the automobile industry. In recent years Malaysia has pushed forward the introduction of the environmental technology, especially green technology, and is expected to be the HUB of Energy Efficient Vehicle production and promotion in the ASEAN region. After Malaysia and the ASEAN region, the proposed EV bus system is expected to operate in other countries which are promoting environmentally friendly transportation.
Using the experience gained from this demonstration project, Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd. will promote the proposed EV bus system with renewable energy supply system, as one of the solutions for creation of a low carbon society.
