Dr. Thuta Kyaw Win, Consultant in the Port & Harbor Department of the Infrastructure & Industrial Development Division at Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd. (OC Global), gave a presentation at the 2026 conference of the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME 2026), held from June 30 to July 3, 2026, at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore.

During the session “Green Shipping, Decarbonization and Sustainable Ports: Port Energy Transition and Governance,” Thuta gave a presentation titled “Port Decarbonization in the Philippines: A Preliminary Review on Institutional Policy and Initiatives.” He introduced policies related to sustainable shipping and ports in the Philippines and presented the current state of the country’s institutional and policy frameworks through comparisons and benchmarking with international initiatives for decarbonization in the port and maritime sectors.
The International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME) is an international academic association that promotes research and education in maritime economics, shipping, ports, logistics, and maritime policy. Although IAME was established relatively recently, in 1992, it has become one of the leading international academic associations in the fields of shipping and ports. It provides a global platform for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from around the world to share knowledge and research findings and discuss the latest issues in the maritime sector. Through its annual conferences and collaboration with leading academic journals, IAME promotes high-quality research that contributes to the sustainable and efficient development of the global shipping and port industries.
IAME 2026 was held under the theme “Shaping the Future of Maritime Economics” and featured presentations and discussions on digitalization, decarbonization, geopolitics, and supply chain resilience.
