Presentation by Dr. Dong

Dr. Dong gave a presentation titled “Long-Term Settlement Behavior of Bamboo Pile Foundation for Breakwater in Coastal Soft Soils” in the “Coastal Structures, Ports and Waterways – Breakwaters” session. In the presentation, he introduced the long-term performance and settlement behavior of one of the world’s largest bamboo pile foundation systems, which was adopted for breakwater construction under the Patimban Port Development Project in Indonesia. The presentation covered long-term monitoring data, settlement characteristics, construction records, and technical challenges related to breakwater construction on ultra-soft marine clay. It also discussed the effectiveness of bamboo pile foundations as an environmentally friendly and cost-effective ground improvement solution for coastal development projects.

The International Conference on Coastal Engineering (ICCE) is one of the most prestigious and longest-running conferences in the field of coastal engineering. Since 1950, it has been held biennially by the Coastal Engineering Research Council (CERC) and the Coasts, Oceans, Ports, and Rivers Institute (COPRI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), serving as a global platform for researchers and practitioners to exchange the latest knowledge and technologies related to coastal and port engineering. ICCE 2026 placed particular focus on innovative engineering approaches and sustainable solutions for coastal areas facing increasingly serious environmental and climate change challenges.
