The construction of the facilities and the installation of equipment for “The Project for the Construction of Training Complex and Outreach Facility of Cambodian Mine Action Centre,” in which Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd. (OC Global; Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan) was engaged from the preparatory survey stage through design and construction supervision, have been completed. On March 2, a handover ceremony was held at the Outreach Facility, completed in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. During the ceremony, Mr. Heng Ratana, Director General of the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC), the project owner, presented Certificates of Appreciation to four OC Global staff members in recognition of their contributions to the project.

Certificates of Appreciation were also presented to Mr. Mitsugu Tomita, in addition to the three OC Global staff members above.

Cambodia, as a State Party to the Ottawa Convention (Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Treaty), is obligated to complete the clearance of anti-personnel mines within its territory by 2025. However, unexploded ordnance and anti-tank mines, which are not covered under the Convention, are expected to remain even after the deadline. Therefore, continued efforts to address these hazards will be required beyond 2025.

This Project involves the development of the Training Complex, which will serve as a training facility for the CMAC, as well as an Outreach Facility in Kampong Chhnang Province and Siem Reap Province. Through improvements to the training environment and the promotion of public understanding and awareness of mine-related issues, the Project is expected to contribute to the advancement of mine clearance and unexploded ordnance countermeasures both within Cambodia and internationally.
