Kampala Traffic Control Center
In Uganda, approximately 90 percent of freight and passenger transport depends on roads, making road traffic an important factor in economic development. In the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area, traffic congestion is severe, with about 80 percent of the traffic volume concentrated within Kampala City, where the major intersections continue to experience inflows of vehicles exceeding their capacity.
This project aims to secure smooth and stable traffic in Kampala City through the establishment of the Kampala Traffic Control Center, the installation and improvement of traffic signals at 27 intersections, and the introduction of Japan’s traffic control system “MODERATO”. The project is thus expected to contribute to the sustainable development of the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area and to the improvement of living standards.
