Contract Signing for the Joydebpur-Ishurdi Railway Double-Tracking Project in Bangladesh Consulting Services for Detailed Design and Bidding Assistance

On July 3, 2025, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, the Joint Venture (JV)* led by Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd. (OC Global) signed a contract with Bangladesh Railway (BR) to provide consulting services, including detailed design and bidding assistance, for the “Construction of Dual Gauge Double Line Between Joydebpur-Ishurdi Section Project (Yen Loan).”

The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Md. Fahimul Islam, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Railways (MOR), Bangladesh; Mr. Md. Afzal Hossain, Director General of BR; Mr. Md. Irfanul Islam, Project Director of BR; and representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

* The JV consists of OC Global, CHODAI, Japan International Consultants for Transportation, SMEC, and two local firms: DDC and ACE.

This project will convert the approximately 173-kilometer railway section between Joydebpur and Ishurdi, a major route connecting the eastern and western regions of Bangladesh, into a double-track line. Under the scope of this contract, the JV will carry out detailed design and bidding assistance services.

The subsequent construction of the double track section will be implemented with funding through a Japanese yen loan. Once completed, the project is expected to significantly enhance railway transport capacity in Bangladesh and strengthen connectivity with India and between the eastern and western regions of the country.
