On March 18, 2025, the Jamuna Railway Bridge opening ceremony in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was held. Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd. (OC Global, Headquarters: Tokyo, JAPAN), as part of a joint venture (JV*) of three companies, has been providing consulting services for the project, including design, bidding assistance, and construction supervision.

Many government officials and parties concerned with the project attended the ceremony, including Mr. Md. Fahimul Islam, Secretary of the Ministry of Railways of Bangladesh, Mr. Shinichi Saida, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Bangladesh, Mr. Teruyuki Ito, Director of the South Asia Department of JICA, and Mr. Tomohide Ichiguchi, Director of the JICA Bangladesh Office.

This bridge is a railway-only bridge located in Tangail District and Sirajganj District, which are situated on either side of the Jamuna River basin in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The bridge has a total length of 13.35 km, including approach sections, and features a 4.8 km steel truss bridge and 50 steel pipe sheet pile foundations. The project began in 2017, and despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the project progressed without delays, culminating in the recent opening ceremony.

Once the project is fully completed, this railway bridge will greatly increase the speed at which trains travel across it, from 20 km/h to 120 km/h. Completion will essentially eliminate the division caused by the vast river, enabling the smooth movement of people in the region. It is also expected to significantly increase cargo transport capacity, thereby substantially contributing to the country’s economic growth.
