The Kanchpur, Meghna, and Gumti Bridge is located on National Highway 1, which connects Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, with Chattogram(formerly known as Chittagong), the country’s primary port city. Although this infrastructure is crucial for Bangladesh’s economic activities, the country’s rapid economic growth has led to a significant increase in traffic volume, resulting in chronic congestion and the deterioration of the existing bridges.

This project involved the construction of new bridges adjacent to the existing bridges, along with their reinforcement and rehabilitation, effectively increasing the total number of lanes. These improvements were designed to alleviate congestion and improve traffic flow. Consequently, the project contributed to streamlining logistics, facilitating smoother mobility for residents, and ultimately advancing regional economic growth and improving social well-being.
Moreover, with Japan’s advanced technical assistance, the project facilitated technology transfer and the development of local engineers, further strengthening the country’s technical capabilities.
OC Global participated in this project from the preparatory survey stage. Our joint venture (JV)* provided consulting services, including detailed design, construction bidding assistance, and construction supervision. The construction work was carried out by Obayashi Corporation, Shimizu Corporation, JFE Engineering Corporation, and IHI Infrastructure Systems Co., Ltd.

*The JV consists of OC Global, Japan Bridge & Structure Institute Inc., Katahira & Engineers International, SMEC International Pty Limited, BCL Associates Ltd., DEV Consultants Ltd., ACE Consultants Ltd., and Nippon Engineering Consultants Co., Ltd.

OC Global continues to support the country’s long-term and safe use of infrastructure through comprehensive and multifaceted initiatives, including local human resource development.
