In Indonesia, shrimp aquaculture is being promoted as a national policy. However, the extensive aquaculture method currently predominant, which is based on frequent water exchange, discharges large volumes of untreated wastewater into surrounding water bodies. As a result, water pollution has become increasingly severe, and shrimp farms that rely on such polluted water sources are facing declining yields.
The Recirculating Land Based Aquaculture System treats and reuses aquaculture wastewater through a closed loop process, thereby reducing water consumption. In addition, by ensuring appropriate water quality at discharge, the system is expected to contribute to improvements in the surrounding water environment. Furthermore, by maintaining stable aquaculture water quality, the system is expected to increase shrimp yields by approximately threefold.
Under this project, demonstration testing is being conducted at a state-owned shrimp aquaculture facility in West Java Province, Indonesia, while also assessing the potential for future business deployment.
On this occasion, shrimp cultivated through the demonstration testing were airlifted to Japan for the tasting session.
Through the practical implementation of the Recirculating Land-Based Aquaculture System, OC Global will contribute to the improvement of the local water environment and the stable supply of food in the region.
