OC Global Awarded JSCE Technology Award II, International Lifetime Contribution Award, International Outstanding Collaboration Award and Technical Achievement Award
On June 13, 2025, the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) held an awards ceremony at the Hotel Metropolitan Edmont for the 2024 JSCE Awards. The Nacala Port Development Project Phase I & II in the Republic of Mozambique, in which Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd. (OC Global) was involved, received the Technology Award II. Additionally, Mr. Yuichi Wakita of the Road Engineering Department received the International Lifetime Contribution Award; Mr. Takuma Oguni, Deputy Director of the Road Transport Division, received the International Outstanding Collaboration Award; and Mr. Masato Suzuki, Senior Advisor of the Port & Harbor Department, together with Dr. Harukazu Ohashi, Principal Consultant of the Road Transport Division, received the Technical Achievement Award.

[Technology Award II – Nacala Port Development Project Phase I & II, Republic of Mozambique]
The Nacala Port Development Project is an ODA yen loan project aimed at contributing to regional economic development through the construction of a container terminal utilizing Japan’s advanced technologies. The newly developed container terminal is expected to serve as the core port of the Nacala Economic Corridor, which connects not only Mozambique but also the landlocked countries of Zambia and Malawi, thereby playing a significant role in promoting regional economic growth.

[International Lifetime Contribution Award – Mr. Yuichi Wakita, Road Engineering Department]
Mr. Yuichi Wakita has been engaged in road infrastructure projects, both in Japan and overseas, for approximately 43 years. In his international work, he has made significant contributions to the development of multiple countries, including Indonesia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Mozambique, by participating in a wide range of projects funded by various donors. These include feasibility studies, design, construction supervision, and project management consulting (PMC) services funded through Japanese ODA (JBIC/JICA), World Bank, Islamic Development Bank, and private-sector expressway investment organizations.

[International Outstanding Collaboration Award – Mr. Takuma Oguni, Deputy Director, Road Transport Division]
Mr. Takuma Oguni has worked as a road engineering expert for over 25 years, contributing to infrastructure projects, both in Japan and abroad. By applying Japan’s advanced technologies, he has helped improve living standards and promoted economic development in various countries. In particular, he played a key role in the Preparatory Survey on the Traffic Improvement Project around the New Kelani Bridge and the New Bridge Construction Project over the Kelani River in Sri Lanka, being in charge of road design. Mr. Oguni has also been actively involved in technical transfer of local engineers, thereby enhancing the capabilities of engineers in developing countries. Furthermore, he has devoted himself to mentoring and developing young and mid-career engineers who will play a central role in future international cooperation.
Mr. Takuma Oguni
[Technical Achievement Award – Mr. Masato Suzuki, Senior Advisor, Port & Harbor Department]
Mr. Masato Suzuki has been engaged in port development projects for approximately 45 years, both in Japan and abroad. For over 30 of those years, he has played a vital role in the investigation, design, and construction supervision of port projects in developing countries. Notably, he has contributed to major international port development initiatives, including the Construction Supervision of the Project for Upgrading of Wharf in Tonga, the design and construction supervision of the Nacala Port Development Project, and Technical Support for the Master Plan of the Port of Mombasa in Kenya. Through these efforts, he has made a significant impacts on both the development of emerging nations and the practical advancement of civil engineering.
Mr. Masato Suzuki
[Technical Achievement Award – Dr. Harukazu Ohashi, Principal Consultant, Road Transport Division]
Dr. Harukazu Ohashi has been involved in the investigation, design, construction supervision, and maintenance of long-span/large bridges, both in Japan and overseas, for nearly 50 years. His research on long-span suspension bridges has played a vital role in the advancement of suspension bridge technology in Japan. In addition, Dr. Ohashi has actively promoted knowledge transfer by delivering keynote speeches and lectures at universities, both domestically and internationally. Through these efforts, he has contributed significantly to the global application and dissemination of various technologies developed in Japan.
