Ms. Thit Oo Kyaw of the Port Department of Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd. (OC Global) spoke at the 10th The World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure Conference on Coastal and Port Engineering in Developing Countries (PIANC-COPEDEC X 2023), which was held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila, Philippines on 9-13 October 2023.

Ms. Thit presented the “Wave forecasting at Japan coast: An advanced deep-learning approach,” where she discussed the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) technology jointly developed by Professor Tomoya Shibayama from Waseda University and OC Global. The technology is used for wave forecasting along the Japanese coast. In addition to her role as presenter, Ms. Thit served as the session chair for the numerical analysis model session.

Headquartered in Brussels, Belgiumm The World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure (PIANC) is an international organization established in 1885. It is a non-political, non-profit organization designated as a consultative body to the United Nations. PIANC conducts research and development on technical issues related to ports, waterways, and more and provides technical assistance to developing countries.

PIANC-COPEDEC is a biennial conference aimed at young port and coastal engineers from developing countries and serves as a venue to present their research. The year 2023 marked the 10th edition of the conference, with approximately 70 technical papers presented.

OC Global conducts technical support for developing countries in areas such as ports and waterways through research into cutting-edge technologies and assists young port engineers in conducting such research.
